Wireframes Hike with Me

Continuing education | TeamTreehouse

Project

“Hike with Me” is a new outdoors hiking app that needs a new user flow. I was given research, personas and user goals for the start of this project. My job was to create a user experience with the fewest amount of clicks possible in order to schedule a hike between friends and other people while following my client’s business goals and personas. The business goals were to create healthier communities and an easier way to schedule a hike with an app. At the completion of the hike, the user will need to rate the hike within the app.

One of the first steps I completed was to create a card sort and low fidelity wireframes to which I can build upon. The hand-drawn low fidelity wireframes were black and white and created in my notebook. I proceeded with a higher fidelity mock using the application Sketch on my desktop computer and then added color and data to my design layouts. With the higher fidelity layouts, I used graphics and vector icons to add more detail to my designs. With my new designs, I added a Signup button, Login button, Schedule, Map, different hike location choices, hike distances, and finally a way to rate each hike.

Conclusion

What I learned in this process is the order and sequencing that I wanted the user to have. I had to study the flow of information and guide the user within this flow and sequence. I often had to make changes to the app when testing this out. I thought a few wording changes and spacing had to be adjusted along the way when testing this out on my cell phone.

Card Sorting - Write Steps

Joaquin needs and goals

Joaquin essentially has two goals for using this app.  The first goal would be to increase the number of hikes he is going to participate in. The second goal would be to hike with friends and share that experience with someone. Joaquin is hoping the app will encourage him to hike more frequently on a weekly basis. Joaquin will be able to use the social media aspect of the app to invite friends and share experiences together.

Business goals of the App

The Hike with me app is looking for more users and more downloads. If the app does have a large following it would be able to build out design space for AD space to sell to local outdoor business. This could be tailored to clothing stores, shoe stores, and Hiking supplies. The app is also encouraging its users to enjoy the outdoors and promote more use of State and National Parks within the USA.
